Heritage Red Wattle Sausage Rigatoni in Creamy Tomato Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb rigatoni (or other short pasta like penne or ziti)
  • 1 lb ground Heritage Red Wattle Italian sausage 
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or use half-and-half for a lighter option)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta:

    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water and then drain the pasta.
